Do I loose my photos and videos on my iPad once I activate iCloud Photo Library?

I Currently own an iPad Air using iOS 8.4.

Once I activate iCloud Photo Library, are my pictures and videos removed from my iOS device once uploaded? Can I still access them through iCloud?

iPad Air Wi-Fi, iOS 8.4
