Can no longer find my "on-the-go" list after adding items--iPod classic gen 3

When I add podcasts to my "on the go list" on my iPod classic, gen 3, 4GB, I can't find the list like I used to. When I go to music > playlists, the display reads "no playlists." When I open iTunes on my desktop and connect my device, I can see the list and the podcasts I've added but not on the device. Help, please..
