How do I sync Apple Music to my iPod?

I have a 4th or 5th generation iPod nano. I love it for running.

I just signed-up for Apple Music. When I try to sync new music to my iPod, it fails and says it cannot b/c music is a subscription item.

Is there a way to make this work? Or will Apple Music not sync to iPod?
