Adding files from external HD without copying them!

I've updated to iTunes 12.2 and have always stored a lot of my iTunes library on an external HD and added it via using alt-key method so it doesn't copy the file to my iTunes library for files I don't want taking up unnecessary room of my Macbook HD or backed-up by time-capsule as outlined below....

However since upgrading to iTunes 12.2 this method doesn't seem to work anymore!

Is anyone else having this problem?

Try option instead of alt on your Mac. 😉

Thanks turingtest2, however I've typo'd (too tired) the above response I am using the option key (not holding command or anything else) and it's not working in iTunes.

Any other ideas?

My apologies, sitting at my Windows machine it didn't occur to me that Alt and Option are the same thing on a Mac. 😊

I've just tested the alt/option drag thing on my Mac and it has worked as expected, with iTunes referencing the files on the original path without copying, so I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. 😕

Are you using iTunes 12.2 because it's still not working for me!

Thanks Roger.

For some reason (option usually ticked so the "option" key works" my iTunes had defaulted back to it being un-ticked so when using the option key it was reversing the process! Can't believe I didn't think of it earlier.
