Macbook Pro 13 inch. randomly freezes with glitchy screen and trys to restarts but keeps beeping

I have a 13 inch. MacBook Pro (purchased in Nov. 2012) and for two years it worked just fine and then one day all of a sudden its screen started to behave in a weird way. I made a small video of my Mac's screen, check it out: https://youtu.be/Ks4wCXj34EA

As you can see in the video there are some small vertical lines on the screen which seem to occur at random positions to me. Whenever this happens the computer stops working and after a while either it would automatically try to restart or I have to force shut it down. If it restarts by itself sometimes it would work fine and sometimes it would start to beep and won't start again. And if I am lucky it would start after I tap its back using my hand for a while.

I took my MacBook Pro to an Authorised service centre in my city and they charged a fee of 75 Euros for diagnosing the problem and even after running several diagnostic tests they couldn't find anything wrong with it and returned it back to me after a few weeks. I checked it. It worked fine. When I brought it back to my home and tried to start it again, it didn't start, instead it started to beep again. I immediately took it back to the service centre and made them hear the beep, they accepted that there is some problem and again kept my Mac with them for another week or two. After that it worked fine for a few days, I don't know what they did, they didn't charge me for anything else. The same thing started happening again. All this trouble and the problem still persists. Even the technician at the Apple authorised service centre doesn't know what is wrong with my Mac.

I read the "MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues" and I found that 13 inch. MacBook Pro isn't covered in this. So it must be some other issue then.

Let me know if you guys experienced the same problem or if you could think of a solution to this problem.

Reset the SMC and the NVRAM:

Try a safe boot:

Run an Apple hardware test:

Note that an error free AHT is nor definitive.

If you have a monitor, connect it to the MBP. Is the display a mirror of the MBP or perfect?

Thanks OGELTHORPE for your quick response. I already tried all these. Nothing helped.

I did reset SMC and NVRAM once earlier. It didn't help.

It boots in the safe mode without any problems.

Apple hardware test doesn't detect any issues.

And yes this problem is still there with an external monitor, no matter the displays are mirrored or extended. Both the screens show the glitches and then the MBP hangs and reboots as described above.

That suggests a GPU problem. Apparently you do not have an Apple store genius bar that is conveniently at your disposal. I would consider contacting Apple and see if you can ship the MBP to them. They should have the expertise to determine exactly what is wrong with the MBP and advise you of your options.

Hey There

I do have almost same problem and I tried everything SMC NVRAM and hardware test. None helped or told what the problem is.

The only differences is that when I connect my MBP to LED with HDMI cable everything is just fine which makes me sure the GPU is working fine too.

Any idea now ?

What do you mean by everything is fine when you connect the external monitor? Does the display on the MBP change?

The Apple hardware Test shows a DC current sensor error.

Since the monitor shows a good image, your MBP display or the connection to the display is faulty.

In any event, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get the problem definitively defined. The evaluation will be free.

The problems you have are hardware with no software solutions. You may be able to contact Apple and arrange to ship your MBP to them for repair. Note that if the display needs to be replaced, that will be expensive.
