Can't update artist names in 12.2.0

Prior to 12.2.0 I was able to update an artist name and iTunes would then change the artist name in all tunes under the artist. I know have many situations that I cannot correct where I get multiple occurrences of an artist name due to spelling differences that I cannot fix or resolve. The attached image has one example of many situations that exist in the library that i want to clean up:

The name I wish to use is "Bachman-Turner Orchestra" note that there are three other variations of this including "BTO". I want to fix this and can find no way to do this since upgrading to 12.2.0 145 on my iMac. Any ideas?
