Is a 29W usb cable charger as good as a mag safe adapters charger for a mac book air?

i Have a Mac book air with a mag safe 45 W power adapter. Recently, it frayed at the magnet end of the cable and stopped working of course. I am now wondering whether getting a 29W USB power adapter would do just as well. Any one have any advice on this? I am on my second charger in 4 years. Thanks for any help.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Section: General information

“Power adapters for Apple notebooks are available in 29W, 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. You should use the appropriate wattage power adapter for your Apple notebook. You can use a compatible higher wattage adapter without issue, but it won't make your computer charge faster or operate differently. Lower wattage adapters will not provide enough power.”
