System always crashes after suspend.

I have a MacBookPro 8.2 running Mavericks 10.9.5. If the battery goes dead while it's sleeping, it puts itself into a suspended mode, as it should. When I start it up again, the system seems to come up fine to exactly where I was before, and everything seems to be OK, but then sometime in about the next minute (sometimes within seconds), it suddenly crashes to the white screen and reboots. This happens 100% of the time, and it often leaves the disk in a bad state, forcing me to do a recovery boot to fix it.

Any advice on what this might be or how to track it down would be greatly appreciated.
