Lower resolution settings for secondary monitor in Yosemite?

I recently upgraded to Yosemite (currently on 10.10.4), and it appears that Yosemite doesn't support the same resolutions for secondary monitors that Mavericks did. I have a LG 23" secondary monitor, and with Mavericks, I could set it up to a width of 1900. However, even with pressing the Option key when clicking the Scaled button, the highest resolution I can get is 1360x768. Is there a way to get a higher resolution back for my LG monitor that I used to have in Mavericks?

When I first upgraded three days ago, I had the same resolution that I had with Mavericks, and it looked great. Last night, I put the computer in Sleep mode (instead of shutting it down), and when I turned it on this morning, the resolution for the LG monitor was set at something like 800x600, and I have been unable to get the previous resolution back.

Hello Wonder95,

I know that can't be a good time with your display not sporting the right resolution that you want. I understand that you recently upgraded your OS to OS X Yosemite and it was working for a few days but now it is only 1360x768. Let's see if we can get this sorted out.

I would start by taking a look at the article below. It has steps to not only deal with the internal displays of your Mac but also for any secondary display. You can try out a few things like Reset the System and Reset the Resolution and those options will be outlined in that article.

On a whim I tried restarting again, and for some reason my old settings came back. Now I have my 1980X1020 resolution, and everything is good.

I had the same problem. After multiple restarts and no change, I unplugged the thunderbolt and replugged it in and my resolution returned to normal on the secondary display. Whew!
