Q: Black Screen during boot camp in  Mac Mini  (Late 2014)

I  have Mac Mini  (Late 2014) -2.6” GHz Core i5 , 8GB Memory , Intel Iris 1536 MB , 1TB

I can’t install windows 7 or 8 using BootCamp , after create the windows install USB disk ,  download Drivers and create the boot camp partition  after restart I  got a black screen .

We tried many windows ver , 7 pro , 7 ultimate  ,  windows 8.1 we have got  the same result.

We did this when Mac mini attached to monitors via MiniDisplay to VGA Adapter and directly connected to displays via HDMI cables

We tried to boot from windows USB disk without boot camp .. after restart we got the same Black Screen..

Although I used the same windows usb flash memory in another MacBook Pro to install windows successfully

Are you selecting Windows or EFI Boot?

Today , when I replaced the mini display to VGA  and VGA monitor   with  another  thunderbolt apple monitor , Finaly  I could install windows 7 pro using BC Assistant  Normally ..

After complete installation and connect the Previous monitor with  mini display to VGA .. it is working normally also...

Although if I used windows install USB disk or External DVD  with mini display to VGA monitor ..I got the Black screen ..!!!

So , You have to use  thunderbolt monitor during boot camp installation , NOT  mini display to VGA  and VGA monitor  to avoid the black screen .

Do you have any clarification for this issue ??

The graphics driver for the Intel Iris seems to be the issue. It should detect available interfaces and use the appropriate output. I had assumed all along that you had a TB monitor. Older Minis that I have seem to do this correctly. I have 2010/2011/2012 Minis and I have tested using both TB and HDMI and HDMI-to-DVI adapters.

As a test, if you want to try it, you can download the drivers for 2012 Mini from System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support and replace the IntelHDGraphics64 directory in $WinPEDriver$ directory and try the older drivers with the VGA connection.

I have the same issue with my Mac Mini (late 2014). VGA HP monitor and trying to install Win7 on it.  I downloaded the 64 bit 2012 drivers and went to replace them in the $WinPEDriver$ directory, however, there was no "IntelHDGraphics64" directory in the $WinPEDriver$ directory on my USB drive.  There was, however, a "IntelIVBGraphics64" directory there.  I moved the old IntellVBGraphics64 folder to my desktop and then I copied over the IntelHDGraphics64 directory.  That did not work so I renamed the HD one to the IVB one and that did not work either.

    I am stuck...any ideas?

If you are installing Windows 7, the entire $WinPEDriver$, AutoUnattend.xml and the Bootcamp folder should be replaced.

From Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support, you will need to Download Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5769

    File Size: 542.3 MB

    System Requirements

    • Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5769
      • iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)
      • Mac Mini (Late 2014)

    Please try these and test.
