window too big

Sometimes while I am using Safari the screen gets suddenly excesively big. The other windows are still ok but I am unable to make that one smaller. The zoom in the mouse doesn't make it smaller, it takes me directly to choosing from all the windows available. The only way of sorting it out is closing the window and opening the website again. Any ideas?
