move photos from preview to the new photos app
it seems that all my photos wind up in preview on os x 10.10.4 when they are downloaded from my 5s. can the default be changed to the new photos app
How are you downloading from your iPhone?
When you connect your iPhone to USB launch Photos. You will see your iPhone in the sidebar. Select it.
Enable "Open Photos for this device"
Then select the photos you want to import to Photos and click "Import selected".
The next time you connect your iPhone, Photos should launch automatically.
Preview does not store photos. But if you want to view a photo, Preview is the default. If you open a photo in Photos it will be imported to the library. That is not necessarily what you want.
But you really want to open each and every photo in Photos select a photo in the Finder and use the command "File > Get Infor" from the Finder main menu bar.
In the Info panel change the setting for "Open With" to Photos.
Then press the "Change All" button.
