error -12894 when trying to play certain songs on iPod/iPhone

I've recently transferred files from one computer to another and have added those files to my iTunes library. These files appear and play on my iTunes on my PC without any problems, however, some songs won't play on my iPod touch and just skip the song to the next one which means that whole albums don't play. On my iPhone 5s, when I try to play a song a message appears saying "The operation could not be completed; An unknown error occurred (-12894)".

Not all of the files I transferred in this way have issues: some files play fine on both the iPod and iPhone 5s but others don't.

I'd appreciate it if someone could help.

Thank you.

I had this problem also on my iPhone 5S with iTunes Match. I found that if I deleted the song, then selected the "remove download" and re-downloaded it, it ported over to the iPhone correctly (and now plays). The key sequence is: right-click on the offending song in iTunes on the Mac, select "delete", select the "remove download" button, then re-download the song by clicking on the cloud with the down-arrow on it on the offending song. This solved my problem.

I´ve come across the same issue with my iPhone 5S. In my case, with songs that I added from my PC, not directly purchased in iTunes (there is no iTunes to purchase where I live).

Anyways, the only way I´m able to add songs successfully, is by adding them one at a time. You know, when you go to the iPhone option in iTunes, and from there you have two lists on the left (settings and device). On the device list I choose "Music" and then on the top right "Edit list". Then I add one song at a time, being careful that I add the song and wait for the syncing process to finish before dragging the next song.

Of course, this is completely inconvenient and needs to be fixed.

I had the same problem, and the offending song was used as the audio for my alarm. When the alarm went off the phone would vibrate, but no sound, and would otherwise be unresponsive. I had to reboot in order to shut off the alarm.

i went to the song in Music and tried to play it, that's when it showed me the error code.

After several attempts to fix it, this finally worked:

In Music, I went to the options menu (...) for that song and selected Delete... then Remove Download.

I after that, I closed the Music app and rebooted the phone by holding down the power button and Home button until the phone restarted.

Then I went back to Music selected the song, and pressed the little cloud icon to download to the iPhone.

Now it works!
