SMC

Will resetting the system management controller reset the motor arms on my macbook late 2008. Currently the arm is in an up position, presumably the correct position for when a CD has been inserted to prevent a second CD insertion. (there is no CD inside).

My unqualified opinion suggests the small motor which operates the "gearing" is stuck. I am hopeful someone can confirm resetting the SMC will correct this problem though I suspect this is unlikely.

Also, if I do try the reset route do I need to remove the battery or not?

As a last ditch effort.... could I attempt to rest the motor by using two AA batteries in series (obviously I will have to remove the drive for this)
