I have recently updated my ipad with ios8.4 and cant play my rented movies from apple store. Any ideas how to fix this?

It might help if you describe exactly what happens when you try to play on of the rented movies.
Just to clarify the movie was rented before i upgraded to ios 8.4. The rented movie is in my videos however the movie picture is not shown. The play button is in idle mode and can not be pressed
I would start with basic troubleshooting steps first. Close the Videos app and force restart (reset) your iPad. No data will be lost when you force restart.
Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps. Swipe left to find the app you want to close. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
To force restart the device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Unfortunately it did not work. Any other steps?
What do you mean when you say that the play button is in idle mode? Do you see this arrow/play button pointed to by the red arrow?

Did you start to watch the movie after watching even for 10 seconds
Then its only available for 48 hours.

No never played it.
Did you tap the arrow on the right side of the screen? It appears to be greyed out, but that's tough to tell from a screenshot.
Another thought.... Do you have any restrictions enabled in Settings>General>Restrictions that would prevent an already downloaded movie from playing?
THe arrow can not be pressed. No restrictions are set.all are off.
