Has anyone had a problem converting an xml file to xls?

When I try to open the downloaded xml file with excel, it will only open as a text file. Thank you for any help!

Hello Tammy@fb,

It sounds like you downloaded an xml file from somewhere and want to convert it to an Excel file. Note an xml file is a text file, an "Extensible Markup Language" file to be specific. They are typically used like preference files or to store other data.

Examples are:

Final Cut Pro X: Use XML to transfer projects and events

Final Cut Pro can import and export XML (Extensible Markup Language) files. You can use XML documents (plain ASCII text files with tagged elements) to transfer the details of your libraries, events, projects, and clipsbetween Final Cut Pro and third-party applications, devices, and media asset management tools that do not recognize Final Cut Pro documents and files.

About the iTunes Library.xml file

This file contains some (but not all) of the same information stored in the iTunes Library file. The purpose of the iTunes Library.xml file is to make your music and playlists available to other applications on your computer.

You may want to check the source and see if they have an Excel compatible format of the data you need, or try to import with Excel using File > Import > Text file (if it is indeed spreadsheet type data or records).

Best

Where are you downloading this file from? Is it supposed to be an Excel 2004 xml spreadsheet?

In general, for problems with MS products, it is often best to check the forums they run devoted entirely to this, e.g.
