icloud drive folder

Hi

I would like to know if I can choose what folder to be synced from my icloud to my mac or it is not possible?

The reason I have this question is that I recently upgraded my icloud plan to 200G while I have 60G free on my mac HD and it seems that I am not able to use that 200G. Because apparently I only can use icloud space as much as I have free space on my mac, which does not make any sense to me.

Syncing with iCloud will sync the complete library. You cannot select only a few folders to sync.

But you can enable "Optimise Mac Storage" in the Photos > Preferences > iCloud. Then iCloud will only download optimised versions to your Photos library on your Mac and not the originals. With this setting the 60GB should suffice.

Or keep your Photos library on a small portable drive. If you do not have the drive with you, you can still browse the photos in iCloud using the web interface and the Photos.app at https://www.icloud.com/

You can store any type of documents on iCloud Drive. But if you enable iCloud Drive it will be mirrored on your Mac and you will see it mounted as a drive in the Finder's sidebar. iCloud Drive is primarily meant as a central storage that will be accessible from all macs and look the same on all devices, and should be accessible, even if your devices are offline. That is why the documents are mirrored.

One way to use iCloud drive, but to avoid the shadow copies on your Mac is to use only the web interface at t https://www.icloud.com/, but not to enable iCloud Drive on your Mac. See this link: iCloud Drive FAQ

Only, then you would be limited to the Web Interface and not be able to drag and drop and browse in the Finder.
