On my IMac OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.4 I have to insert a password every time I do an update
or download. I don't want to have to do that. What can I do to stop the pop up window asking for a password every
time I do something.

Apple requires your Apple ID password for every update and especially if you download content from the web, (not Apple).
So what you are saying is there is not any setting that can be released to keep these pop up password boxes from happening.
I figured it was an "Apple" requirement but I would also think as the owner of the Mac I would have the option to use or not use a password.
Passwords are there for your protection. Not using them is like keeping your front door unlocked.
