My I PAD does not have the option to update software under settings and general. Please help. Its olds and I need to use it foe school but need at least iSo7.

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 8.4 for an iPad 2.

Tap Settings > General > Software Update
If an update is available there will be an active Update button. If you are current,
then you will see a gray screen with a message saying your are up to date.
b. If you are still using iOS 4 — Updating your device to iOS 5 or later.
c. Resolving update problems
The ability to update OTA did not appear until iOS 5. You need to connect the device to iTunes and update that way. If you have an original iPad, you will not be able to update. All the other iPads can update to iOS 8.4.
iOS 4 does not have a update setting in settings you have to plug it in to iTunes and update from there to iOS 8.4
ipad 2 can get to iOS 8.4 i have one apple still supports them.
