8.4 can no longer play audio from safari in background

Since updating to 8.4 I can no longer play audio from YouTube etc in safari and close it to play in background. When I bring up the control center to select play I only see a play symbol, it's still showing the safari audio as the ssource but nothing happens. Previously I'd see RW Play FF, now I just have a non-functioning play button. Any suggestions? Thanks!
