Stuck in recovery mode

Is there a way to get my iPod Nano 3rd generation out of recovery mode WITHOUT restoring it? I don't know where the back up files are and I don't want to lose all my music. My iPod won't charge when it's plugged directly into an outlet but it will charge when plugged into my PC and appears with the "Do not disconnect" screen and iTunes prompts me to "restore my iPod." Also, if I unplug it, my iPod will tell me to connect to iTunes to restore my iPod. Also, I don't even know how it got in recovery mode...
