There are various threads around this in these forums, but really they're just repetitions of this.
If there's a 3rd party phone app that has a watch companion, that might do better

Jul 12, 2015 12:13 PM in response to clm002by rory j,I have been using "other" but it really stinks at measuring my HR accurately. Right after I finish a squat set I'll check my HRM and it shows me my last resting (between set) heart rate (usually 65-80). Then after about 10 seconds it gets with the program and tells me a more accurate number (125-140 depending on th intensity) also the calorie count has me at around 250-300 for an hour of moderate to high intensity weight lifting.... HA!
honestly, compared to a traditional HRM the apple watch is a joke. It's very inaccurate unless I am just sitting there. Often it struggles to get an accurate read when I am running/lifting. Just sits and spins. Also the calories burnt are WAY OFF compared to what my GARMIN Fenix 2 and Wahoo fitness (app paired with Bluetooth HRM Monit or says)
if somebody has never used and HRM before they won't know the difference. But for me, so far, it's really inaccurate and more of a novelty item.
