Q: Unable to upload or attach photos

I had to do a restore of my Macbook Pro (Yosemite) from Time machine. Although all of my photos are in the photo library they are not available for me to either upload or attach. When I go to the folder to try and attach or upload a photo the folder appears empty.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Am I correct in assuming that you can see your photos in the Photos or All Photo windows but not in an album in the sidebar?

When I go to the folder to try and attach or upload a photo the folder appears empty.

By folder do you mean an album?  Folders in Photos can only hold albums and projects, not individual photos.

How were you attaching or uploading photos prior to the restore via Time Machine and where are you trying to upload to attach to?

Which folder are you looking at, when you are trying to attach a Photo?

You can send a photo by Mail directly from Photos. Select the photos in Photos and use "Share > Mail".

Or in Mail.app click the Photo Browser icon and it will reveal the panel with the photo libraries:

If you have not set Apple's Mail as the primary Mail client, save the photos you want to upload or attach to the Desktop and attach it from there.

Try updating first. Then you have to restore the iPhoto Library from the Time Machine backup as a regular library. Then open the restored library in iPhoto.

    Hi

My photos are all in my photo library. By that I mean, when I click on "photos" icon all my photos appear.

However, when i try to upload a photo, a window opens where I usually select (under the media option on the left) "photos" and all my photos that are in my libraby usually appeared for me to choose. Now none of them appear.

You should see the Photos lIbrary, if you are using Safari as Web Browser for uploading:

But the Photos Library needs to be enabled as the System Photos Library. Check the Photos Preferences > General. The option "Use as System Photo Library" needs to be dimmed for the library to be enabled as System Photo Library.

I am using Chrome. I am using apple mail When I try to attach a file a window on my mac opens where I was usually able to select the "photo" camera icon underneath "Media" and all my photos use to be there. Now they are not. It says "open Photos" to see your photos but even when i do so they still arent there,

As léonie mentioned Safari can access a Photos library and its various albums, etc.  If you're using Google Chrome it cannot.  If you don't like Safari then try Firefox.  It's much safer than Chrome and is a very good browser.

Also a good reason to stop using Google Chrome is discussed in this article: Google Chrome Listening In To Your Room Shows The Importance Of Privacy Defense In Depth.  There is also other Google software that routinely "phones home" with user data.

And have you set the Preferences in Photos as I described? Is Use as System Photo Library enabled?

Don't go directly to the Pictures folder in the Sharing panel.

Scroll down the side bar to the Media  section and select "Photos".

    Like this:

Then click the Photos Library to open.
