Wanting to sync iCal on old iMac with iCloud Calendar

I have a new MacBook Air that sync beautifully with my iPad, and both my work and personal iPhones. This works great with email, calendars, contacts, you name it! I do however have an iMac that is running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and if I'm not mistaken the hard drive isn't large enough to support the upgrade to Snow Leopard. Literally all I want the iMac for is email (which I finally got to cooperate), manage my calendar, and it would be great if I could sync my contacts as well. However this system was setup for when MobileMe was in place so I can't figure out how to make my iCal 3.0.8 and Address Book 4.1.2 play nice with iCloud Calendar and Contacts. If anyone has had any success with finding a workaround, I would love to hear it!

As of August 2012, visitors to MobileMe.com are no longer given the option to convert their accounts to iCloud or to retrieve old photos and files, with Apple now simply pointing users to iCloud.
