Extra RAM does not make a Mac go faster.

This crap should go (it may have already caused damage, deal with that later)

    CleanMyMac 3 Menu

As should this piece of badly written Junk.

Get rid of them all (do it properly, don't just drop whatever you can find in the trash)

Thank you for responding.  Honestly, if I knew how to do the things you suggest I probably wouldn't be in this mess...my laptop from Mid-2013 (MacBook Pro) with 8GB (I know what you said) is so much faster...I clearly have an issue(s)...I can reinstall DropBox (or should I not)...I rely on it as a cloud server...why is CleanMyMac bad?  not sure what trusteer is....what is "proper" way to get rid of it?

Again, thanks...but how do I get rid of these things?

Do you know anyone who can log in remotely and fix issues like this for Macs who is reputable and safe?

    Yes, reinstall it.

    ...why is CleanMyMac bad?

It's a scam and a well-known troublemaker which is a common culprit for decreased performance on Macs.

Never, ever let anyone remotely access your Mac. Make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store.

Well, unfortunately I had problems before CleanMyMac...why I went there...what about MacKeeper?

Is there a good program to clean and optimize a mac?

Macs take care of themselves. They don't need to be "cleaned" or "optimized." MacKeeper is an even worse scam that tries to extort money out of you by claiming there are critical security issues on your computer when none exist, and you need to pay for the full version to remove it: http://www.thesafemac.com/ongoing-mackeeper-fraud/.

My impression of Genius Bar every time I go in is really computers 101...are the "geniuses" at the bar capable to sitting there and testing and diagnosing and fixing my issues?

I can't answer that because it will vary by employee.

Here's another good read on the myth that Macs need to be "cleaned:" http://www.thesafemac.com/the-myth-of-the-dirty-mac/.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
