No software instruments

When I reinstalled Logic Express 9 on my newly wiped MacBook, it was fully functional with one exception- the software instruments have disappeared... so recording MIDI is useless. Any ideas on how to get them back, or how to reinstall new ones? I'm willing to buy some patches, but I don't even know how to install them on Logic if I do.
