This is what HP support suggested that I ask apple
The following are the settings that your Router Support / Internet Service Provider (ISP) needs to check:
1. Allow the following ports in their security software to allow both the inbound and outbound communication for your printer's ip address:
* TCP 68
* TCP 80
* TCP 137
* TCP 138
* TCP 139
* TCP 161
* TCP 427
* TCP 443
* TCP 5353
* TCP 8080
* TCP 9100
* TCP 9101
* TCP 9102
* TCP 9103
* TCP 9110
* TCP 9220
* TCP 9290
* TCP 9500
* UDP 137
* UDP 138
* UDP 139
* UDP 427
* UDP 3702
2. Please make sure that router is running in mixed mode running both an "G" network as well as an "N" network.
3. Please have the printers hardware (MAC hardware) address added the the MAC filtering in the router. The printer's MAC hardware address can be found at the back the printer itself.
4. Please make sure the router is broadcasting on channel 1, 6 or 11 as these will optimize the printer connection with little interference from other devices.
5. Make sure Multicast Filtering is enabled, allowing bonjour protocol to be broadcast on the network.
6. Make sure bandwidth is also running 2.4 GHZ frequency instead of 5.0 GHZ.
