Open iMovie HD Projects in Yosemite?

Can someone please help me? I can open iMovie HD on my new computer with Yosemite using the package contents workaround, but I can’t open any of the old project files I have saved on my external drive. I have months and even years of work poured into these projects and I really need to be able to open them, I have no idea what to do. Is there a way I can open my old project files?? They show up as a folder in finder now instead of a project file. If I try to drag the folder to iMovie HD it just gives me the popup again that says "You can’t use this version of the application “iMovie HD” with this version of OS X."

I'm seriously considering downgrading to an older OS if I can't find a way around this. I can't afford to just lose my project files and the editing I was working on. Can anyone help? I'm really desperate.

Was this iMovie HD 5 or iMovie HD 6?

You can iMovie HD 6 to work on Yosemite, but not version 5.

I am not in the same situation as you, so I can't try this. Might be worth a try.

Open iMovie HD. Go to File>Open and navigate to your projects,( or as you say which are now folders) and select open.

Apologies if this is the method you have already tried.

Or try this.

Ctrl click on a project file (folder?) and select Show Package Contents.

Normally at the bottom of the list under Shared Movies you will see an iMovie Project File ( may be 2 of them?) , double click on one of these.

Under "normal" circumstances the project would open.

I simulated this today, and it worked for me.

Select "Open an Existing Project" and navigate to your Project file on your external drive.

I was able to open an archived file though Terminal, but can't get the time line to show up.

So now I have the original project but minus all the editing I did.

Is there a way to get my work back?
