Q: how do i reset my log in password

unable to log on my accout after i when through 2 step reset. I can only use guest user and have no access to any files. I have reset my Icloud paassword and its working fine with itunes and app. but my imac will not accept it as my log in password. any help on how to fix log in prolbem
