Empty Shared Folder

I have created a shared folder and tried, unsuccessfully, to put pictures in it. I have tried selecting the pictures, then clicking the share icon and creating the new shared folder: Nada. I have tried creating the shared folder and then selecting the pictures: Again, nada. And I have created the folder and tried dragging images into it. In all cases, it looks like it will work, but the shared folder remains empty. Any thoughts? I'm on a new MacBook Air with all the latest updates installed.

Wait. While I was typing a response to you (below), some pictures started to appear in the Shared folder. Should it take hours? They are already synced to the cloud and I would assume that I would be able to see them in the shared folder immediately after putting them in there. Seems very odd.User uploaded file

I'm using 10.10.4 and yes I am on wifi but I don't think that that is it. If I go to my Shared folders, I see images in the one called "Screensaver." This was a carryover from iphoto and so I never set that one up in the new Photos. As you can see form the screenshot, there are image sin it. But in the one I have created multiple times in the past 24 hours--"Tanzania 2015"--the folder remains blank.

It may take a long time for the photos to appear in the shared albums. When I first migrated to Yosemite it took a full day.

If there is only one shared album that will not populate at all it may be caused by a photo or video you added, that cannot be processed.

Did you try to share videos to your Tanzania folder?

As a test I'd create a new "tanzania 2015" with a slightly different name, and add only one photo to it. Make sure that the photo can be processed by first editing and exporting it. inly add photos to the album that can be edited and exported. Does this photo appear in the Shared album after a few minutes?

You may have to delete the shared album that does not work. It could be blocking the other shared albums.

OK. I just created a Test folder and added one picture. It has now been 7 minutes and it still does not appear. is that normal? I am trying to decide whether to stick with Photos or switch to the Google Photos, and if Apple's product is this slow, I may migrate over. Something seems off to me. The picture I tested is viewable in its Album folder and I know it was synced (it appears on other devices already) so why won't it show in the Test folder?

Why would I need to export them? I have a;ready imported them into my library. I am not sharing any videos so that shouldn't be holding things up.

But it is true that if I drag over one of the images that was already shared in the Screensaver folder, that one appears right away. So waht is different about the Tanzania pictures? And how would I know?

The picture I tested is viewable in its Album folder and I know it was synced (it appears on other devices already) so why won't it show in the Test folder?

But did you try to edit it? Only then you can be sure that it can be processed and the original image file can be accessed by Photos.

iCloud syncing is uploading the photos as they are, but "Shared Albums" are sending smaller versions in a reduced size, so Photos needs to be able to edit the Shared Photos.

If the photos do not appear in the Shared album, even if they can be edited, try to reset iCloud Photo Sharing.

Quit Photos and sign out of iCloud Photo Sharing in the System Preferences > iCloud > Photos

Then restart the Mac and enable Photos Sharing again.

If the albums will still not sync, try the fix in this post: Re: Yosemite Photos iCloud photo sharing not working

VERY interesting, thank you!!

I had the same problem after a Time Machine backup.

I've found a solution :

1. Quit Photos

2. Remove the folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd

3. Restart

4. Launch Photos

… and everything works again!!

Your user library may still be hidden.

To reveal the hidden User Library:

  • Bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock.
  • Select your user/home folder (with the house icon in the Finder sidebar)
  • With that Finder window as the front window, press the key combination ⌘J to bring up the View options.
  • In the View options panel enable ’Show Library Folder’. That will make your user library folder visible in your Home folder.
  • Open your Home folder, then the Library folder, then Containers.
  • Move the complete folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd to your desktop. Move the entire folder, not just the contents.

Now restart the Mac and try again. If all is well, delete the folder from the Desktop.

Thanks for taking the time with this.

It is now many hours later. I have tried many of the things in that pist (I repaired the Library, etc), but I still only have 74 our of 300 pictures in the shared album. I did create a test folder and tried to drag over one image, and I chose one that is already in my shared folder called Screensaver, so I know it is ok, and thta one image is still not showing up.

This is very frustrating. Google scanned my whole library, including videos and made them available on multiple devices with no problem, I would prefer to stay within the Apple ecosystem for a number of reasons (privacy and better editing capabilities being the two main ones), but if I can't share my pictures with my family members, I don't see the point in paying apple for storage.

Any other ideas?
