I have a Dell Laptop (I know...work gave it to me) set into a docking station

I'd like to extend the display to my Cinema Display but keep getting a "Cannot save Changes" error when I try.
My Cinema Display has a DVI-D Single Link Male connector. My docking station has a DVI input and a Displayport input.
When I plug by Dell Monitor (which also has a DVI-D Single Link Male connector) into the DVI port on the docking station, it works. When I plug the Cinema Display into the same slot, it shows a black screen, but I can see the Cinema Display in the DIsplay Settings in Control Panel. I tried plugging it into the Displayport using a DVI-Displayport adapter, but that doesn't work either. If I plug the Cimena Display directly in to the laptop (without the docking station) using a DVI to miniDisplayport adapter, it works. But, I can't plug both monitors into my laptop as there arent enough ports.
Any ideas as to why I can't show/extend my Cinema Display? Do I need a different adapter?
