Xserve firmware

Hi All

I need some help with xserve firmware.

I run a number of xserve servers as VMware ESXi hypervisors.

In order for the VMware ESXi operating to run well on them the bios firmware needs to be at a specific firmware level.

The firmware version required is XS31.88Z.0081.B06.0908061300

First question is

Where can i get this version of firmware, noting that later XS31 versions cause issues so the version need to be the one above.

Second question is

Do i need to have the OSX operating system on the server to upgrade/downgrade the firmware, or can the bios be upgraded/downgraded outside of OSX?

Your help is appreciated,
