My son has a Ipod Touch and after the most recent OS update he cannot send text messages to certain people that he could send to before the update. He can receive a text, but when he sends there is a red ! error and the message will not send. I message is turned on and he can send to my iphone, but not other people. Can anyone help?

Can he successfully reply to a Message from a recipient he can't originate a Message too?
Maybe he now has the wrong address.

I had this problem too! I have recently found out you can't send a text/message to just a phone number, the contact has to be connected to a email account or Icloud account. A iPod can't send a text message to just a phone number. And if one of you son's friends has a android connected to a Email accout, the chat bubble he sends may be blue because the friend has a android or other phone. If he texts a friend with a Apple device,it may be green, ( sorry if i switched them up, i don't know them off the top of my head)

I just went into the Genius Bar over this issue on my iPod touch and, if it happens in the future, turning off iMessage in settings and re-logging in solves it.
