Username and Password for ARD

When I try to add a computer from the scanner to All Computers it asks for a username and password. I have tried the login information, but that doesn't seem to work. The same thing happens when I am trying to observe / control a computer. It is getting annoying as I can not use ARD now! Very new to this!

On the client computer (the one you're trying to remote into), go to System Preferences > Sharing > Remote Management

For Allow access for, select Only these users and then select an admin user. Check all the boxes you want (if in doubt, check them all).

Then, go back to the machine with ARD and use that admin user's username and password to authenticate.
