Q: Issues with two-step verfication on iPhone 3GS

Dear Sir/Madam,

I recently picked up a problem with my two-step verification on my iPhone 3GS. It used to work just fine for many months. My problem is that I can NOT complete the two-step verification process anymore - I can only complete the first step in the process. On my iphone when I go to "Settings" then "iCloud" then "Account" and then I enter my Apple password. This works fine. The second-step does not work anymore. The "Verify Identity" screen then pops up correctly as before and asks me to choose the method to verify my identity. I can verify with 4 different ways e.g. iphone, ipad, SMS etc. It does not matter which one I choose I can not progress past the "Verify Identity" screen. Absolutely nothing happens when I click on the "Next" button in the top right hand corner. It is as if the "Next" button does not work anymore. I am therefore stuck on the "Verify Identity" screen. What should happen as it did many times before is that a screen pops up where I can enter the Apple 4 digit code for verification. What now? I can not read my icloud mail on my iphone anymore because of this problem.

I even tried generating an "app specific password" at https://appleid.apple.com to solve this problem but it does not work when I enter the 25 string password where I would enter my apple password. I did not expect it to work but I tried anyway.

Furthermore, I tested my apple devices and they can all receive the apple verification codes. I checked this by logging into www.icloud.com from a desktop computer and sending the apple 4-digit verification codes to both my iphone 3GS and ipad 4 as part of the login process.

Please help. Many thanks

You may be dealing with simple IOS glitch. Glitches are resolved by steps 1.2.3.4 if previous step didn't help you go to next.

    1. Restart

    2. Reset (when you press two buttons until phone restarts)

    3. Reset all settings

    4. Restore iphone.

Thanks for suggestions. I tried steps 1 to 3 and they did not solve the problem. I do not want to restore my iphone because it is an iphone 3GS that is not supported by Apple anymore. I will not be able to verify the iOS software installation.

    Thanks for suggestions.

I have tried 1, 2, 3 and 4. Now I cannot log in to iCloud anymore.

This seems to be a 2-step verification problem... as I sometime ago turned the 2-step verification and could login in icloud via my iphone 3GS

What worked for me when I had this same issue was to sign out of Messages and then sign back in again using the App-specific password. Make sure you have signed out of, and then back into Messages with the app-specific password on all of your devices. Then try again.

    Best of luck,

I've restored the iPhone thus I was signed out from everything. I even removed/signed out from iCloud... loosing all the notes that were only on the iPhone but not synched yet with iCloud.

or do you mean sign out from iMessage on ALL my devices even if I don't have problems in the other devices?

That's what I mean. Sign out of Messages on all devices and your Mac, and sign Messages back on using the App-specific passcode for Messages on all devices and your Mac. Then try again.

signing on Messages works, but it doesn't solve the problem described above by EclipzeIT : "I  can NOT complete the two-step verification process anymore".

the 'next' button is not working when I choose the verification method...

    thanks for any other suggestions.

I Too faced same problem with my iPhone 3GS but solution is 3) step

It's been easy, Guys you should understand how it works,

    1) first turn on 2 step verification in your Apple ID

    2) go thru the steps

    3) goto "Manage your trusted devices." In password and security tab

    4) verify your device and key in the code you get on iphone the browser

    n enjoy

Turn off two step and Redo the steps it worked for me and not asking for password like before but remember to verify your device in the first process of enabling it..!,! thanks

i think the next issue is present but doing like first time it's not a problem for me now

I have exact the same issue here. To turn off the 2-factor authentication couldn't be the solution, or? That would mean for every re-login: turn off, define new security questions, login, activate again, wait again some weeks to finish the new 2-factor authentication ... Can't believe!!!

Two step verification and two factor authentication are two completely different animals. Go to developers forums or contact apple for support.
