Can I convert some songs to 256kbps and keep others as AIFF when synchronizing iPod, or does my entire library have to be converted to 256kbps?

If using the "convert higher bitrate songs to XXXk AAC" feature then, as far as I'm aware, it only applies to songs newly added to the device, so you may be able to add some unconverted media, then change the setting before adding more. There isn't however a way to selectively transcode say one playlist and not another.

I could also be wrong, in which case existing higher bitrate songs would be converted too.
