Apple II Clone Drives on Genuine Apple II

I have an Apple II Plus clone (Franklin Ace 1000) and I wanted to know if I can remove the floppy controller card (and drive) from the Franklin and use it in a genuine Apple II. I usually would go ahead and test to see if it would work but I am afraid that I could burn out the drive if it isn't compatible.
