Q: "Codec not installed"

I'm running a brand new MacBook Pro. I got Final Cut Pro X and Compressor 4.2 running. I have Pro Video Formats downloaded through the App Store. I tried Compressor on an mp4 file, hoping to convert it to ProRes so I can edit it in FCPX. Any attempt to use Compressor comes back with the "Codec Not Installed" error. THis isn't even for ProRes - literally nothing works. "Publish to YT", "Uncompressed", everything comes back with the same error.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

MPEG-4 is a media container. What's the codec? Can you open the file in the QT player? What does it say in the Info window that the codec is?

When I bring it into Compressor, I can "playback" the media on the Current screen, and I get audio but no video. When I play it through QT, I get video but no audio.

    The codec is H.264

If it helps any, I tried bringing the original mp4 file into FCPX. I get neither video nor audio.

Any way to get complete information about the media? Maybe from the Media Inspector app or similar? Both application can play H.264 MPEG-4 .mpg or .m4v files in video and audio, so there's something else that's missing.

    Maybe the file's .mts?
