mac pro 2013 and thunderbolt display randomly goes black and then comes on

Hi.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one.

I have a new Mac pro late 2013 with a thunderbolt monitor. 16GB RAM 2 dual graphics, (3GB) and 512GB SSD

Recently when I have been using my pro for work and playing games. The screen goes black and then comes back on again. its like some sort of disconnection. It really annoying.

This has happened for quite a few times since I have had it. which has now been a month or so.

I am wondering to ZAP the PRAM first and if that doesn't help to book into the apple store for some help.

I was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem and could shed some light on it please?

I can confirm that this bug still exists with Sierra 10.12.3.

I went years with the "Automatically adjust brightness" option turned off because of this bug. I forgot about the bug and I turned it on last night in my dark room. Sure enough, the Thunderbolt monitor randomly goes black (the secondary monitor from Dell did not) and I thought I was crazy. I googled it, found this thread, and then remembered.

I guess Apple needs $300 billion in cash before they can fix this bug with their monitor running on their computer using their OS.

I understand that your MacBook Pro with our Thunderbolt display isn't functioning as expected and a PRAM reset did not resolve this issue. There are just a couple more steps that I could recommend in the article below.

Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

If the issue persists, see the quoted section of the article below.

If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support

Thanks for your message.

However I have a Mac Pro. What I have done is to disable the ambient light sensor within the display settings. It didn't work properly since Apple updated the OS X software!
