Q: My new iPhone 6 keeps getting kicked off my home Wi-Fi
I’ve recently upgraded from my iPhone 5 to a new iPhone 6 both on Verizon accounts. For almost 2 years I have successfully used my iPhone 5 on my home Wi-Fi. However I can’t seem to keep the new iPhone 6 on the home Wi-Fi, typically it kicks me off within 30 seconds and reverts to cellular service 3G or LTE. I notice if I go to email then it seems to kick back onto Wi-Fi only to drop off again in couple of minutes, maybe sooner. I still have my old iPhone 5, but of course the cell phone service is disabled since moving to the iPhone 6, and interestingly I can still use my iPhone 5 for Web browsing and e-mails on my home Wi-Fi and it stays connected.
My home router is a TP-Link WR841N (hardware version WR841N v6/v7) (Firmware version 3.13.9 Build 120201 Rel.54965n). Pretty much default recommended settings.
My iPhone 6 is on iOS8.4. My iPhone 5 is on an earlier version, I think 8.3. And before you ask, no I won’t upgrade the iOS on my iPhone 5 to see if that has the same issue.
What I've already tried:
I have reset the iPhone 6 Network Settings by going to Setting > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. I know it has successful reset as a new different IP address was issued from the router 192.168.0.101. This made no difference.
I went to the local Verizon store and I was able to get on and stay on their Wi-Fi with my iPhone 6. So I figure there is nothing wrong with the phone itself.
I reset my TP-Link router, both power off/on and re-booted through the router browser
My CenturyLink DSL modem (Model Number PK5001Z) has its own built-in Wi-Fi router which I choose to disable preferring to use my TP-Link router. As a test I re-enabled the CenturyLink Wi-Fi and my iPhone 6 linked up with that and stayed connected just fine. I then forced my iPhone 6 back on the TP-Link Wi-Fi which it went on for about 20 seconds a then revered back to the CenturyLink router Wi-Fi. So I have a working Wi-Fi using my CenturyLink router but I prefer that I only use the one TP-Link router. Which incidentally handles 9 other Wi-Fi products in my house without any issues, including, iPad mini, DVD player and PlayStation.
So does anyone have any ideas why my iPhone 5 works with my home Wi-Fi but iPhone 6 gets kicked off?
