ipad unknown error (-39)

I'm trying to update my iPad2 to the latest version via wifi, it didn't work; told me to plus into iTunes. It can't do the update, says there was an error. I am then instructed to restore to factory settings. When I do it says there was an unknown error (-39). Anyone know what that means? My iPad is now a paperweight at this point. I have no idea what the last OS was installed on it, presumably 8.3 but I don't know. As I recall it had a problem doing previous updates.

Syncing your iPad to a computer running Windows?

"Error 39"

This can be caused by outdated iTunes software or web accelerators.

To resolve, download the latest version of iTunes for Windows at apple.com/itunes/download/
If already on the latest version, look at disabling or uninstalling any web accelerator software and restarting.
