How to open 3.2.4 library in Aperture 3.4.5

I have Aperture 3.2.4 running on a mac running snow leopard. I installed Aperture 3.4.5 on a Mavericks laptop. I copied the 3.2.4 library (2 of them) to an external USB. I then tried to open these libraries in the 3.4.5 version. When I open Aperture and select File -> Switch to Library -> Other/New… I can see the following libraries. Note the bottom 2 are from version 3.2.4.

If I chose one, I get the flowing dialog:

Clicking Relaunch will relaunch Aperture, but when it comes up, it has not loaded the library,

I'm trying to use an application called Aperture Exporter, but it won't run on Snow Leopard, so I need to be able to get this working in Mavericks. Any help would be hugely appreciated

Thanks

Is the external drive "Media External" formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled)? And the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag set? If not, try to move the Aperture library to a different drive, that is correctly formatted (see: Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture - Apple Support).

Since you copied between different Macs the "Ignore Ownership" flag is important or you may have permission problems on the drive. You can set the lad in the"File > Get Info" panel for the drive, at the bottom in the "Permissions" brick.

The migration of Aperture 3.2.4 libraries to Aperture 3.3 or later has been problematic, if the library had any small corruptions.

It is best to ensure that the library is without problems by repairing it before trying to upgrade it.

Try to use the Aperture Library First Aid Tools on the libraries in question before trying to upgrade them. If you can, do that in in aperture 3.24 on your Snow Leopard Mac.

  • To repair hold down the alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking the Aperture application in the Applications folder to launch the Aperture Library First aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear.
  • The select "Repair database". Repeat with "Repair Permissions".

If it still does not suffice, repeat with "Rebuild Library". But make a backup copy of the library before trying to rebuild.

Just wanted to report back that I was able to successfully open my old 3.2.4 libraries with my 3.4.5 version of Aperture. Instead of trying to open the library from inside of Aperture, I decided to try double-clicking on the library itself in finder. That popped up a dialog telling me I needed to convert the old version to the new one. After a minute or so, it opened up in Aperture. All looks good.

Thanks for your help, léonie. I really appreciate it.
