Q: slow internet on wifi; normal to fast on personal hotspot
hello..
i had just bought my first mac. and this is my first time to post to the support community.
- 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
- 16GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
- 2TB Fusion Drive
- Intel Iris Graphics
after the initial set up, i noticed immediately that internet connection using my current wifi router is very slow. [im using a linksys E2500 (ISP speed at 5mbps)]. so i tested the speed using my HP laptop and the results were the usual 4.5 - 5.3mbps. using my iphone 6 to test the speed revealed the same results. i tried configuring the bluetooth setup (after reading one post from the support community with a solution), and there was no change in the slow connection. so i tried connecting to the internet using my iphone 6 as a personal hotspot (LTE speed at 15-20mbps). the result was that i was able to connect to the internet and download software updates. why is this happening? with my laptop and iphone, using the linksys router gave me no problems when surfing and downloading at 5mbps. how come that when i use the router with the mac mini, it takes ages for a page to load, whether i use safari or chrome. could anybody please help me? thanks in advance..
sincerely,
ted k
