A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help.
Top left corner of your screen click the Apple > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart
About Safe Mode
If that didn't help, the startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk and restore OS X.
Thank Carolyn. I had a go at starting in safe mode. It still won't progress passed the spinning coloured logo after entering the user and password. So I cant get to the menus you have described.
Hi Leafjul, Did you got any solution? I'm also facing with the same.
"Spinning Wheel after login on Yosemite" Issue Solved!!!
Install Yosemite on an external USB Hard Drive and boot with it. Then uninstall the last apps you installed.
