Q: Renaming PDF files in iBooks

I have imported some new PDF files into iBooks (from an email attachment) and synced through iTunes to ensure they are available across all devices.  However, I would like to rename them for sort order and future searches etc.  The iOS devices do not appear to allow renaming, nor does the icons in iTunes and I presume they need to be renamed at source, i.e. via the iBooks application in OS X.  However if the PDF image is selected from the iBooks application it opens in Preview and renaming it in Preview does not alter the name in iBooks and the renaming disappears when Preview is closed.

So, how do I rename my PDFs?

Do I need to find them in Finder perhaps and rename them there?  If so, where are they located?

Note: My previous PDFs were collated traditionally in Finder and imported to iBooks before I signed over to iCloud so were all named before import to 'new' iBooks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), iTunes, iPadAir 2, iPhone 6+
