What Mac pro do you have? The latest Mac Pro desktop is the late 2013 Mac Pro.
The 2013 Mac Pro's headphone port also accepts mono mic in

I talked with a guitarist. He said to do it via USB with my effects loop. I think I did it this way about fourteen years ago.
