Yep, you broke it, the black blob at the top is form the screen breaking. Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty repair, if it is just the screen it will be $109 USD, if more damage they will replace the phone with a service replacement for $269 USD.
