Q: Photos not available on iDVD

Hi, After downloading Yosemite and the latest versions of FCP-X and Compressor, I do not have access to my iPhoto library on iDVD. The only option I have available is Photo Booth. How do I re-gain access to my iPhoto library on iDVD?

    You need to make yourself clear.  Are you saying you can' access your iPhoto library from the Media/Photo pane in iDVD?  Or is it the new Photos library that you're referring to?

     

    If you running Yosemite and Photos then iDVD will not have direct access to the new library.  You'll have to export the photos you want to use to a folder on the hard drive and drag them from there into iDVD to use.  Also you shouldn't move that folder until the iDVD project is completed and burned or saved to disk.

     

    You can still continue to use iPhoto. Photo was not deleted from your hard drive, only removed from the Dock.  If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can still use your iPhoto library.  If you don't have that version but some earlier version of 9.x try following Terence Devlin's instructions in this post to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

    Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

     

    If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash.

     

    Install the App from the App Store.

     

    Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

    One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

     

    iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

     

     

    Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

     

    To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

     

    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
