Q: Airdrop: iPhone 6 does not see MacBook Pro

My iPhone 6 has iOS 8.4 and both MackBook Pro and MacBook Air have version 10.10.4. I am within a few feet (6 feet) of both Macs but the iPhone thinks the MacBook Pro is offline.

However, it sees the MacBook Air, my two iPads and my wife's iPad. Am able to Airdrop to these devices but not the MacBook Pro.

I don't know what is happening here. Any suggestion will be appreciated. My apologies if I missed a similar post in my searches.

How old is the MacBook Pro?

If it is earlier than late 2008, or if it is a MacBook Pro 17" from late 2008, it is considered an "older Mac".  In that case, see "Sending files to and from an older Mac" toward the bottom here:

    Hello,

I have the exact same problem and I am very desperate with it. It supposed to work with less than few click, right?

My MBP is Retina Early 2013, running 10.10.4 and I have iPhone 6 running 8.4

The MBP can see the iPhone in AirDrop but not viceversa... I just want to send a photo to my MBP without using cable connection.

Just a quick note, both wifi and bluetooth are already on on both devices, I waited over 10 mins already and also tried reboot. None worked.

    Appreciate if anyone could help.

Hi sberman, I have tried the Mac Basics: AirDrop procedure you recommended. I have also checked the firewall and File Sharing settings. I have selected AirDrop both everyone and Contacts only. My MacBook Pro is a 2009 build; still I can not  AirDrop to or from iPhone 6 and or iPad. MacBook Air works beautifully.

None of the devices can see the MacBook Pro.

A bit disappointing to say the least.

    Anyway; thanks for your suggestions.

    That is exactly correct!

As stated in the "Mac Basics: AirDrop let you send files ..." article I linked above, in the section titled "Sending files to and from an older Mac", your MacBook Pro is too old to interface to an iPhone or iPad.  Only Macs manufactured in 2012 or later can do that.

UPDATE: The MacBook Pro should be able to AirDrop Mac to Mac, just not to/from iOS.
