Open the Printers & Scanners pane in System Preferences. Double-click the HP print queue to open it. Select each unfinished job in the window that opens, then click the X button on the right to delete it.

I have the same problem with the com.hp.device.transportproxy and the fan running non stop and tried your solution but there were no unfinished jobs in the various printers which I use. Are there any other suggestions you could offer ?

Hi Tony, I found that by going to Activity Monitor, I found the nasty using up to 400% of the CPU!! No wonder the battery was getting really hot! By right clicking on it I could 'Force Quit' it, BUT, at the end of the line, there was a number in brackets, there were hundreds of them! So I just kept 'force Quitting' until I quit hundreds of them. In the end, I gave up but, next time I started up my mba, all was well with the world. This has happened twice now, both times after going to the HP website!? I went there to sort out a problem with my printer!? Which said it was connected to my network, but my mba couldn't find it!? So now I just connect by USB. hope this helps.

Many thanks indeed Speedy Bob - there is now a silently running laptop - your solution worked.

This was great advice thank you!  I found myself quitting that HP program but nothing would happen. I had to erase all my printers as well from the saved list.  I just now use it wired until I eventually add it into the system again.  Then I just restarted the computer and it's silent again.
